Meet The Nissan CHILL-OUT Electric Crossover Concept

Nissan has been on a mission to transform the future of mobility for more than a decade. The Nissan Leaf was the first electric vehicle to bring EV transportation into the mainstream. With Nissan's next electric vehicle, the Ariya SUV, due to arrive in the near-term, Nissan is now showcasing the next wave.

Meet The Nissan HANG-OUT Concept

Nissan unveiled four concepts on November 29, 2021, across four different segments. This is the Nissan CHILL-OUT, which rides on Nissan's CMF-EV platform. If produced in this form, the Nissan CHILL-OUT would slot below the Ariya in Nissan's electric lineup. More visibly connected to the current Nissan lineup than any of the other three concepts (you can see that in the shape of the grille), the CHILL-OUT nevertheless includes a wide array of distinctly concept-like characteristics: the hidden doorhandles, the rear-hinged rear doors, and the disappearing driver controls.

Like the other three concepts, the Nissan CHILL-OUT's design exercise goes hand-in-hand with Nissan's announcement that the future of Nissan electric vehicles includes all-solid-state batteries. You'll hear Nissan refer to them in the future as ASSBs. Nissan is pumping USD $17.6 billion into electric and battery development over the next five years. The goal is to build solid-state batteries that are thinner, lighter, more affordable, and more effective.
